There are basically two ways how to take veganism. One would mean to be open yourself to it, to say “yes” to veganism, and to even try maybe it, as well as to search for more reasons to support your “yes”. The other one, naturally, would be a “no” and to either end up right there or to make some effort to support your refusal. Either way, it is always connected to ethics, ecology and of course to human health. As for the last point, facts that should support your initial “yes” and to help you on your vegan mission, are covered in great detail in special literature and other various sources.

The very basics you need to know about a healthy and varied diet, which is the first necessary thing or a healthy vegan lifestyle, is to know at least a bit about your nutrition requirements and where to get all those required nutrients. These things, of course, are a bit different for vegans than for people following other diets or no diets at all. There are even slight changes depending on how old you are or what you do. Every single vegan should know something about what they eat, because to simply rule out meat and dairy products from your menu is not enough even though your body is usually able to compensate for most of the initial difficulties you might encounter.

At present, there is no problem to find relevant information as to what to eat and why, since there are many studies and other materials from many different sources. The very first document that should help you out at the beginning on your vegan way, is the official standpoint of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), which is the world’s biggest organisation for health and nutrition, employing many health, diet and nutrition experts. ADA released an official document as early as in 2003, saying that veganism is a healthy diet for every person no matter how old you are or what you do. This is the first as well as a very strong point for those who credit science, and who care for detailed studies, since there are strong numbers as well as other facts supporting this claim. We will try to present you with these studies and other materials, which show the health benefits of veganism, or we will at least try to link you to parts of such studies that might interest you.

A large number of people care about common sense and personal experience apart from any facts presented by scientists and their studies. There are several points worth mentioning that might interest these people as well. For example, take the fact that nowadays there are more vegans in the world than ever before in the whole history of mankind (which is a very interesting fact on its own) and that the overwhelming majority of these vegans are healthy people with no health issues whatsoever. You can meet these people, talk to them and see for yourself. The authors of this text are amongst them, and many of their friends and even relatives are also healthy vegans. That includes children, nursing mothers, adolescent and elderly people too, as well as athletes or other sportsmen and sportswomen. Veganism is real, it is not a minority of people living on the edge of society anymore.

However you can still see many who oppose veganism as well as those who take many general myths concerning human health for granted, not to mention prejudice.

Since veganism is widely covered on many other websites, in books and other sources, we focus only on gathering these links and other relevant tips which are connected to the discussed issue of vegan health and nutrition to present them to you through our news section of this website.
