Certification

Many goods contain products and ingredients sourced from dead or live animals, and many products and food are directly made from animals or their products. Obviously, there is no problem to find the origin of such food. However, there might be a problem in case of the animal derived ingredients. Many of them are added to some of the products that many consumers would not directly link with animals.

In general, the certification systems might help you to find more easily ethical goods or services in the Czech Republic. You can find more info about both the systems and particular logos regarding the veganism at www.etickespotrebitelstvi.cz.

The most important and common certificate guaranteeing that product contains no animal ingredient is the Vegan logo administered by the Vegan Society. Any food or other product labelled with this logo does not contain any meat, milk, eggs, honey, furs, animal hides or skins. Final products as well as the ingredients should not be tested on animals. Detailed info on the Vegan trademark can be found here. For a list of all companies with this certificate please go here.

Another two certificates that inform consumers that strictly no animal ingredients have been added to a product are the following Vegan Certified labels. American and Canadians products are labelled with this logo, however you can find them also in the Czech Republic at present. They meet similar standards as the above mentioned Vegan certificate.

The Vegetarian Approved logo is another way how to find out more about the animal ingredients of a product. This logo, administered by the Vegetarian Society, guarantees that no animal was killed in order to produce a product. Nevertheless, the product can contain products from live animals - milk, eggs or honey. For more info please visit the web of the Vegetarian Society www.vegsoc.org.

Some manufacturers still use real fur. These are gained by the cruel hunting of animals in the wild, or by fur farming methods that do not fulfil basic behavioural needs, either. Many countries have already banned animal hunting or fur farming, and more manufacturers nowadays focus on alternatives without the need to kill animals for fur. The following Fur Free Retailer logo designates such dealers, producers or designers, now even in the Czech Republic. For more info please visit www.furfreeretailer.com.
