About us

Welcome to the website of the Czech Vegan Society

The Czech Vegan Society was founded in 2008 as an NGO similar to The Vegan Society in the UK with a main goal to support and promote the vegan lifestyle called veganism. This lifestyle is based on respect towards animals, their lives and needs, as well as towards the environment and one’s health. We also feel a need to clearly state that apart from being non-profit, the CVS is also a non-religious organisation, which does not directly support, and is not directly supported, by any religious group or individual - e.g. Ching hai and similar entities.

The very basic principle of veganism is to exclude all forms of exploitation and cruelty that happens to animals because of their usage for food, entertainment, clothing or any other purpose. Please feel free to read more about this aspect of veganism in the Ethics section. For the environmental benefits of veganism, please go to the Ecology section where you can find more info as well as some interesting numbers concerning this matter. The third main issue connected with veganism concerns health, and you can browse through our Health section of this web to get more familiar with it.

However, perhaps the most interesting part of this web - for an English speaking reader of course - will be the Veg in Czech section that provides lots of interesting hints and tips about veganism in the Czech Republic. We are also working on a Czech vegan cookbook containing popular traditional recipes from the whole country. Last but not least is our sister project Ethical Consumerism, that covers a much wider area of healthy, compassionate and environmentally-friendly living, so if you are interested in it please go to www.ethicalconsumerism.cz
